Being A New Mom = Absolutely NO Sleep!

Ever since bringing my little minion home from the hospital, I have learned one thing that I took for granted before. I will not have a full night's sleep for a very, VERY long time. In those early days/nights you are just in this blur of feeding and sleeping. But once you are out of that stage, your little bundle of joy likes playing with her toys whenever she's awake, especially when all you want to do is sleep. Take for example last night. My wonderful daughter decided that instead of eating and going right back to sleep, like I was beginning to think was our new normal. She decided that it was time to alternately play and cry, depending on what I let her do. She is only just 5 months old. You would think that a quick rock in the rocking chair would do the trick, right? Well, that worked, for about ten seconds. I laid her down and she instantly woke back up. And I'm thinking, "What the heck?!" you aren't a newborn anymore, none of this crazy wakefulness for no reason. Then I think, "Oh, she loves her swing, she usually falls asleep in it!" Well, she had other ideas. She decided it was time to work on her sitting skills while lying in her swing, for 45 MINUTES!!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!! It was 4:30 in the morning and all I wanted was sleep, which was completely opposite of what she wanted to do. She wanted to see her friends, ladybug, ducky, and dog. So I gave up. The hubby was going to be getting up in about a half hour to go to work so I might as well stay up.
So now even though I thought we were finally to a stage where she was sleeping more and I was starting to get back some precious hours of sleep, I know better than to think that the minion won't change it up just to make sure I'm paying attention.
